State Patrol arrests Fulton County man in Franklin County for alleged child kidnapping

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

A Fulton County man was arrest Tuesday afternoon in Franklin County for the alleged kidnapping of two young children.

This came following an alert from Atlanta Police officials, who said they were notified of the abduction of two children by Dontrell Obrien Johnson, 25, of Union City.

APD had responded to a report of a kidnapping at 1371 Kimberly Rd. in Atlanta early Tuesday to find that the children were missing.

A release from Georgia State Patrol's Post 52 in Hartwell said that troopers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 85 Northbound near mile marker 172 in Franklin County after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

Upon stopping the vehicle driven by Johnson, officers confirmed the two children inside the car were the ones reported by Atlanta Police as those abducted.

State Troopers immediately detained the driver and recovered the children, ages two and four, from the backseat of the vehicle.

Both children were immediately transported to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office to be returned to their mother.

The suspect was transported to the Franklin County Jail and the Atlanta Police Department is handling all associated kidnapping charges.
