Blue Sky Concert Series to return in Gainesville in May

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

Gainesville’s Main Street will bring back the annual Blue Sky Concert Series every Wednesday in May.

"Downtown Gainesville has carried a vibrant arts and performance culture throughout its years," said Main Street Gainesville Manager Nicole Parham. "The downtown square is Gainesville’s heartbeat – it has historically been the central point of gathering together as a community. Live music is something that brings people together."

The Blue Sky Concert Series allows performers to bring live music to the Historic Square in Downtown Gainesville from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. every week.

Aside from live music, the community can look forward to having a chance to win a prize if they shop or dine at any restaurants or shops on the square during the concerts. To enter for a chance to win, keep your receipts from your purchase to show City staff at the Main Street tent to have your name entered into a drawing. The winner will be drawn following the concert.

“May is also Historic Preservation Month, so we’ll be telling stories of historic downtown Gainesville on social media and have some giveaways to tie into that during these lunch events," Parham said. "We’ll also be selling Main Street Money, a local downtown gift certificate program that is good at over 25 different stores, to help promote economic vitality in our historic business district."

Concertgoers can also enjoy the ‘Blue Sky’ Specials served up at several local restaurants.

The city recommends that those who plan to attend the concerts bring their own lawn chairs and picnic blankets to sit on.

This year's artist line-up is as follows:

  • May 3 - Rodney Appleby
  • May 10 - Roger Moore
  • May 17 - Eli Hannon
  • May 24 - Eduardo Cautino
  • May 31 - Out Past 9
