LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. — Gainesville’s Spencer Ralston continued his recent strong play on the Korn Ferry Tour on Thursday.
Just days after making his first cut of the season and finishing in a tie for 30th at the Veritex Bank Championship, Ralston fired a 4-under par 67 on Thursday in the first round of the LECOM Suncoast Classic.
Ralston’s 67 put him in a tie for 15th. four shots off the lead held by Logan McAllister, who fired an 8-under 63. He will tee-off at 1:53 p.m. for Friday’s second round looking to make his second consecutive cut.
Starting on No. 10, he opened strong with a birdie on the 10th and then drained an eagle putt on the Par 5 14th to move to 3-under. After six straight pars, Ralston birdied the Par 4 4th to move to 4-under.
Two holes later he got within two shots of the lead with a birdie on No. 16. But a double-bogey 6 on the Par 4 8th dropped him back to 3-under and a tie for 26th. But he rallied to birdie his final hole, the Par 4 9th, to get back to 4-under.
