Buford woman arrested for texting 911, falsely claiming she had been kidnapped

A Buford woman was arrested Tuesday after she allegedly texted 911 and falsely told dispatchers she had been kidnapped and was being held at gunpoint.

A press release from the Hall County Sheriff's Office said Raven Nicole Thompson, 23, was charged with unlawful conduct during a 911 call, reckless conduct, giving a false name/false information to police and false report of a crime.

Thompson allegedly gave dispatchers a fake name and gave several locations in the south end of Hall County where her alleged kidnapper was transporting her. Thompson texted dispatchers claiming that she was deaf after dispatchers attempted to call her. She also claimed she was being held at gunpoint.

Dispatchers were able to ping Thompson's phone and a Hall County Sheriff's Deputy was able to stop the vehicle she was in on McEver Road near Blackberry Lane. Authorities determined Thompson was riding with her neighbors to get food and had not been a victim of a crime.

Both the Flowery Branch Police Department and the Oakwood Police Department assisted in the search for Thompson in the hour she was communicating with 911.

Thompson remained in the Hall County Jail on a $5,200 bond as of Wednesday afternoon.
