A guilty verdict has been returned against a couple for reportedly abusing a 7-year-old girl at a Buford apartment.

The Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office reported on Friday that 25-year-old Javen Tyree Richardson and his girlfriend, 30-year-old Akilah Amin, were both sentenced in the case.

Richardson was convicted on four counts of aggravated child molestation and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences with the first 80 years to serve in prison.

Amin was convicted on one count of influencing a witness and one count of cruelty to children in the second degree. She was sentenced to 20 years with the first seven to serve in prison.

Amin and Richardson also had to register as sex offenders and must have no contact with the victim or her siblings.

“Justice for this young victim begins with the outcome of this trial,” Gwinnett District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said. “Her family and her loved ones must continue to help her recover and heal.”

It’s reported that Richardson sexually abused the girl several times and the victim disclosed the abuse at school. It was revealed in court that Amin then trained the child to change her story and lie to officials about what happened to get Richardson out of jail.

The child told her story from the witness stand in front of the Gwinnett County jury, who returned the guilty verdicts.
