A boy is in critical condition after he was struck by an SUV while walking on Harmony Church Road in Gainesville Sunday evening.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, troopers responded just after 8:30 p.m. to the scene of the accident on Harmony Church Road west of Harmony Hall Drive.
The juvenile victim was reportedly walking with another juvenile with the flow of traffic along the right side of the roadway, traveling east. The SUV was also traveling east, but the driver reportedly did not see the boy due to his dark clothing and a lack of lighting in the area.
The SUV struck the boy with its right front. He was then thrown into a mailbox and landed in a ditch on the right shoulder. The SUV stayed at the scene.
The boy was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition.
