Man, woman arrested on drug, child cruelty charges in Towns County

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

A man and woman from North Carolina were arrested last week in Towns County on a list of charges including drug possession and first-degree cruelty to children.

In a release, the Towns County Sheriff's Office said deputies were performing a safety check in the Gumlog area on March 23 when a K-9 alerted on a vehicle at the scene. When authorities searched the vehicle, they allegedly found methamphetamine that tested positive for both fentanyl and marijuana.

Amber Lynn Rogers, age 27, and Brett Andrew McCray, age 32, both of Hayesville, North Carolina, were arrested at the scene. A six-month-old child was also found reportedly unrestrained in the vehicle. The child was turned over to family members at the scene.

Rogers and McCray both face charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Both are currently in the Towns County Jail with a $17,000 bond.
