GBI arrests former Banks County detention officer

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested a former Detention Officer with the Banks County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday for violation of oath by a public officer.

GBI officials said the Banks County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to investigate Sammy Reece, 67 on Sept. 27, after he allegedly provided contraband to work release inmates he oversaw.

The investigation indicated that Reece provided prescription medication, alcohol and unauthorized use of a cell phone to the inmates on his work crew.

Reece has been charged with three felony counts of Items prohibited for possession by inmates; warden's authorization and one felony count of violation of oath by a public officer.

Reece was booked in the Banks County Jail and provided bond.
