The Georgia Department of Transportation announced Tuesday the construction of a new bridge at State Route 136/Price Road in Dawson County.
Preliminary construction is planned to begin on October 23 if weather permits.
GDOT said in a release the bridge will replace the 68-year-old crossing located at Toto Creek.
Toto Creek Bridge was built in 1956 by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Traffic through the area will continue until the bridge is removed in 2024. A detour will be established to SR 400.
A temporary traffic light will be put in at the intersection of Henry Grady Parkway and SR 400 to help manage traffic GDOT said.
Full bridge closure is scheduled for February 2024 with the completion date scheduled for November 2024.
Traffic delays are anticipated during construction. GDOT officials suggest using SR 53 as an alternate route to access Gainesville and Hall County.
