Despite a wet, rainy night, Northeast Georgia-area teams put on a show Friday night in Week 3 of the 2022 season.
In a Class 7A top-five showdown at Tom Riden Stadium, Buford and North Cobb headlined the evening. The Wolves survived a tough defensive battle with a late fourth-quarter score to beat the Warriors, 21-14, to stay unbeaten.
Flowery Branch went up to Toccoa to take on Stephens County in what was slated to be a defensive struggle. In the end, Stephens County ran away late in the first half for a 27-11 win at The Reservation. Dawson County and North Hall renewed their new rivalry at The Brickyard, with the Tigers running away early from the Trojans for a 30-13 win.
Several other teams remained perfect at 3-0 on the young season. Lumpkin County walloped Franklin County, 48-0, at The Burial Grounds; Gainesville survived against Monroe Area 23-13 on the road, and Rabun County saw the offense reignite in Tiger to beat Adairsville 72-36.
Meanwhile, Banks County moved to 2-0 with a 21-14 win over Oglethorpe County in Homer. East Hall also improved to 2-0, holding off Johnson 14-13 in Valhalla. The loss for Johnson, unfortunately, tied the program's longest-ever losing streak, now at 25 straight.
North Forsyth won its second straight game knocking over arch-rival West Forsyth, 28-24, at Raider Valley. East Jackson took down West Hall in a 26-0 shutout at the Hot Gates.
Jefferson and White County improved to 2-1 with wins. The Dragons shutout St. Pius, 23-0, at Memorial Stadium, while the Warriors ran past Chestatee 34-7 at Warriors Stadium.
