Softball: Branch holds off Jefferson in 8-5A opener for both

JEFFERSON, Ga — Flowery Branch scored three runs in the top of the second and Nikki Harris made it stand up in a tight 3-2 win over Jefferson on Thursday in both teams' Region 8-5A opener.

Harris allowed just six hits, walked one, and fanned nine in the complete game win for the Lady Falcons (3-1, 1-0 Region 8-5A).

In the second inning, Branch got RBI hits from Mia Davis and Casey Beaver sandwiched around a steal of home by Alyssa Davidson.

Jefferson led 1-0 after the first inning on a RBI double from Greysin Busch. After the Lady Falcons grabbed the lead the next inning, the Lady Dragons cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth on a RBI single from Savannah Smith.

The Lady Dragons got the tying run on base in the sixth but could not advance the runner and Harris set down the final six batters to close out the victory.

Taylor Spivey took the loss for Jefferson (4-1, 0-1 Region 8-5A) allowing 13 hits and striking out four in a complete-game effort.
