FBI continues investigations of bomb threats directed at area colleges

Last week’s bomb threats targeting North Georgia Technical College’s Clarkesville campus on Monday and Currahee Campus in Stephens County on Tuesday were among several similar threats last week.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined state and local investigators in the probe of those incidents.

"The FBI is investigating a series of bomb threats targeting community colleges, colleges, and universities across the country,” a statement from the FBI reads. “Although at this time no explosive devices have been found at any of the locations, the FBI takes all threats seriously. The investigation involves 34 FBI field offices working closely and sharing information with our law enforcement partners at the national, state, and local levels.”

The Clarkesville campus was one of eight schools in the Technical College System of Georgia, and one outside the system, that received threats on July 25.

The FBI reminds anyone who observes anything suspicious to report it to law enforcement immediately.

In Georgia, the state has a “See Something, Send Something” mobile app that allows people to provide immediate tips, including photographs, to law enforcement. That information is sent directly to the Georgia Information Sharing and Analysis Center.
