Investigators charge Madison County residents with fire that destroyed Banks County barn

Three Danielsville residents have been charged after allegedly setting a fire that destroyed a barn in Banks County early Friday.

Mark Dwayne Kelly, 54, Tammy Kelly, 50, and Dwayne Lee Kelly, 32, have been charged with second-degree criminal damage to property.

That’s according to Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King.

The fire began around 4:30 Friday morning and destroyed an almost new, 2,400-square-foot pole barn and its contents on Spring Road at a Baldwin address in Banks County.

“Our investigators responded to a barn fire that began around 4:30 a.m. and found the barn, along with approximately 100 round bales of hay, totally destroyed,” King said in a statement. “Upon further investigation, the fire was found to be an intentional act and three suspects were arrested at the scene. The owner of the barn had no previous connection with the offenders.”

King’s Fire Investigations Unit is assisting the Banks County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office with this investigation.

The fire was one of two in a span of a few hours early Friday within a couple of miles of each other.

The other was an unoccupied house just off U.S. 441 on Moss Mill Road, also at a Baldwin address in Banks County.
