A local trucking company received approval from the Hall County Commission Thursday to build a new development on Candler Road near Dale Road.
The project had been tabled several times by the county planning commission, but was finally recommended for approval by that board in May. James and Greg Simpson with Simpson Trucking were looking to rezone over 37 acres of land to light industrial for the project.
During the planning commission hearings, several residents of Dale Road voiced opposition to the project. At Thursday's commission meeting, however, two residents said they now support the rezoning.
"Our primary concerns were that we did not want a driveway on Dale Road. We did not want to feel like we were just on the skirts of an industrial park," resident Tony Towe said after the meeting. "Mr. Simpson granted us plenty of buffer and he's agreed to leave those undisturbed. I think we all just came together and came to something that worked for all of us."
Darryl Rochester spoke on behalf of the Simpsons at Thursday's meeting and said there would not be a driveway on to Dale Road and to add a 25-foot landscape buffer farther up the road.
District 3 Commissioner Shelly Echols said she was pleased that the two sides were able to reach an agreement.
"Thankfully, Mr. Simpson just really was very gracious and wants to be a good neighbor to them and I'm glad that they were able to work together so that they could come to a good solution for everyone."
Commissioners approved the rezoning unanimously.
