Proposed Simpson Trucking site tabled again by Hall Planning Commission

A proposed industrial development with outdoor storage for a Gainesville trucking company has been tabled again by the Hall County Planning Commission.

The request by James and Greg Simpson with Simpson Trucking has gone before the planning commission several times, but will now need to come back on May 2 to be voted on. The request is to rezone 37 acres of property on the west side of Candler Road at Dale Road for the project.

While planning commissioners appeared willing to recommend approval of the development at Monday's meeting, county staff indicated they needed more time to review the amendments planning commissioners had proposed and to review more details on the site plan.

Several residents spoke against the project at a hearing on March 7 and more spoke out at Monday's meeting.

"My primary concern is not so much with either of the buildings that Mr. Simpson has proposed. My concern, more than anything, are these areas called outdoor storage," Dale Road resident Tony Towe said. "Close to my property line, the revised proposal is only giving me 50 feet of buffer."

Brian Rochester of Rochester and Associates spoke on behalf of Simpson Monday and said they would be willing to shift the outdoor storage area closest to Towe's property to create more buffer between the two.

After the vote to table the request, planning commissioners indicated that there would not be another public hearing before their final vote May 2 because two public hearings have already been held. If the project is recommended for approval by planners, it will then go to the Hall County Commission for a final vote.
