Hartwell man charged in Monday’s double homicide in Hart County

Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland reports the arrest of 59-year-old Morris Maurice Norwood of Hartwell in two murders that happened in that county Monday.

Norwood will be charged with felony murder and additional charges for the deaths of 25-year-old Alexius Spencer and 26-year-old Jerece Teasley of Hartwell, Cleveland said.

At approximately 1:10 p.m. Monday, the Hart County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting on Redwine Church Road in Hart County. When deputies arrived at the scene near Rose Acre Farms, a man and woman were found shot inside a vehicle.

Teasley died at the scene, while Spencer died at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia.

One person of interest initially detained was eliminated as a suspect, Cleveland said.

Cleveland praised the work of his investigative staff as well as special agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Georgia Department of Corrections K9 and Hart County first responders.

No motive has been given in the case, and additional details will be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
