Driver killed in two-vehicle accident in Gainesville

A 75-year-old Gainesville woman has been identified as the driver killed in an accident on Thompson Bridge Road on March 15.

According to a social media update from the Gainesville Police Department, Maria Hernandez was attemping to turn left onto Thompson Bridge Road southbound from the driveway of a business. Her Toyota crossed in front of a Mack dump truck driven by Charles Beck, 46, of Clermont, which was traveling north on Thompson Bridge Road in the outside lane.

The crash took place near the intersection of Thompson Bridge Road and Oak Tree Drive. Hernandez died from her injuries at the scene.

The crash hapened just before 4:30 p.m. No charges are expected at this time.

Original story 5:45 p.m. on March 15:

A driver was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Thompson Bridge Road in Gainesville.

Keith Smith, Division Chief with the Gainesville Fire Department, said emergency personnel responded at 4:15 p.m. to the intersection of Thompson Bridge Road and Oak Tree Drive. Emergency personnel said the accident involved a commercial roll-off dumpster vehicle and a car.

The driver of the car was trapped in their vehicle when crews arrived. Personnel attempted to remove the driver from their vehicle. However, the driver later died from their injuries. 

The driver of the dump truck was uninjured.
