Lawrenceville interim police chief acknowledges prior affair, discipline

By Lauren Hunter Multimedia Journalist

The interim police chief for the Lawrenceville Police Department Thursday addressed a previous affair and resulting discipline during his previous employment with the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.

Major Myron Walker said during a press conference the affair took place seven years ago. According to CBS46, the affair came to light when Walker and his mistress, who has been identified as a former employee of the Sheriff's Office, engaged in a physical altercation that required law enforcement response.

Walker told his wife about the affair after the mistress threatened to do it herself. When Walker went to talk to the mistress about the situation, the two got into the physical altercation.

A subsequent investigation resulted in Walker being demoted from sergeant to corporal and suspended, a punishment he admitted he deserved during Thursday's press conference.

According to documents referenced by CBS46, an investigation revealed the two had sex in administrative offices, in a patrol car and on occasion when Walker was on duty. The two also exhanged graphic pictures and Walker used his agency-issued phone.

Walker said he and his wife have addressed and moved past the affair. His wife was among those who joined him during Thursday's press conference, along with Lawrenceville City Manager Chuck Warbington and Mayor David Still.

Walker was named acting police chief after former chief Tim Wallis was suspended and then resigned following a third-party investigation into allegations of sexual harrasment and a hostile work environment. Walker said he hopes to heal and move the Lawrenceville Police Department forward.
