Lawrenceville Police Chief Tim Wallis will step down from his position this month following a recent investigation into internal complaints which led to a 10-day suspension for Wallis.

Wallis and City Manager Chuck Warbington recently met and agreed that it was best for Wallis to step down following recent events, a press release from the City of Lawrenceville reads. Wallis will retire from the city on Feb. 15, 2022.

“Chief Tim Wallis is a long-standing member of the Lawrenceville Police Department and provided many years of dedicated service to the City,” Warbington said in a prepared statement.

Major Myron Walker will serve as acting chief in the wake of Wallis' departure.

The announcement came less than a week after the city announced the Lawrenceville Police Department had been the subject of an independent investigation over multiple internal complaints. Internal complaints against the agency pertained to sexual harassment, improper use of city property and a hostile work environment.

Wallis was suspended without pay for 10 days following the investigation. The assistant chief of police was given documented verbal counseling. A police captain who declined to be interviewed during the investigation also submitted his resignation from the city and retirement from POST.

"The City of Lawrenceville is committed to moving forward in a positive manner," the release reads.
