A Nicholson man was arrested in Athens Thursday after he was found in possession of stolen mail and forged checks.
According to a social media post from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, police responded to a downtown bank after receiving a report about a person attempting to cash a stolen check.
The suspect fled after the arrival of police officers, but authorities later located him in the area of Broad Street and Milledge Avenue.
The suspect, Jason Williamson, 38, of Nicholson, was arrested without incident.
Williamson was allegedly found in possession of over 60 pieces of stolen mail and numerous stolen and forged checks at the time of his arrest.
He was charged with several crimes related to the incident, and additional charges are likely forthcoming.
