Flowery Branch to host Veterans Day ceremony

Flowery Branch will host a Veterans Day ceremony on the lawn of the city hall building on Friday, November 11.

The ceremony will begin at 4:00 p.m. and last approximately one hour, featuring a service flag display and speeches from mayor Ed Asbridge and other community members. A local student from Lanier Christian Academy will sing the national anthem, and bagpipes will be played at various points throughout the event.

Downtown Director Renee Carden was hired in September 2021 and says this is the first year they’ve held this type of event.

“I have several people that are in my circle who are veterans, and I just know how important it is for us as a community to recognize what they give and do for us,” Carden said.

Carden presented the event plans to the Flowery Branch City Council during their meeting on Thursday, November 3. Members of the council expressed gratitude and excitement for the chance to hold a ceremony for a day they hold dear.

Carden emphasized spreading invitations to all local veterans and anyone inside or outside of the Flowery Branch community. Bringing lawn chairs is encouraged.

The event will run from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at 5410 W Pine Street in Flowery Branch. City Hall is housed in the same building as the police department on Railroad Avenue. The ceremony will take place on the lawn on the west side of the building.

The ceremony will be a special thank you to the veterans of our communities. In the wake of the 2022 midterm elections, may we all take time on November 11 to remember the liberties and freedoms members of our military have fought for, and continue to fight for, every day.
