A driver suspected of driving under the influence early Sunday led Habersham County deputies on a chase from Clarkesville into Banks County.
Deputies attempted to stop a red 1994 Dodge Dakota pickup truck on Toccoa Highway about 3 a.m. Sunday for not having working taillights on the vehicle, GSP reported. When the driver failed to stop, a vehicle chase began.
GSP said the driver, later identified as 37-year-old Curtis Glenn Mincey, was actively fleeing on U.S. 441 in the left southbound lane and attempted to pass Habersham County Sgt. Brian Collins’ 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe in a grass median when the passenger side of his truck struck the Tahoe.
After striking Collins’ vehicle, the truck then continued to flee and struck Habersham County Cpl. Adam Ivester’s 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe, the GSP reported.
A third crash occurred when Mincey’s truck spun out and struck a guardrail in front of Ivester’s SUV, causing the front of the Tahoe to strike the front of the truck.
Mincey suffered minor injuries and was taken to Habersham Medical Center.
The sheriff's office charged Mincey with numerous felony charges, including three counts of aggravated assault, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and obstruction of an officer.
GSP charged Mincey with DUI and defective tires.
