A 19-year-old was arrested Sunday night in Hall County on a driving under the influence (DUI) charge after driving in the wrong direction of U.S. 129/Athens Highway.
According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Angel Dominick Oceguera of Gainesville was arrested after deputies responded to U.S. 129 right after 11 p.m. after receiving multiple calls of a wrong way driver in a silver car.
A deputy was heading south on Athens Highway when he encountered the suspect heading towards him driving the wrong way according to officials.
The deputy braked and steered away from the car to avoid a head-on collision.
When the deputy caught up with the driver, Oceguera allegedly refused numerous signals to pull over until they reached Athens Street, where the suspect stopped.
Oceguera was charged with one felony count of fleeing or attempting to elude and six misdemeanors.
Those misdemeanors include DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, duty to make immediate reports of accidents, and not showing his license when asked.
Oceguera reportedly sideswiped a car while traveling north in the southbound lanes before the deputy arrived, which caused minor damage to the victim's car and no injuries were reported.
Oceguera was taken into the Hall County Jail on a nearly $19,000 bond, which he posted Monday evening.
