A Dahlonega man has been charged after he allegedly submitted two forged surety bonds to a construction company in North Georgia.
According to a press release from the Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire, Ernest Warren, 48, was charged with two counts of forgery on Sept. 29.
The agency's Criminal Investigations Division received a report about suspected fraud from a representative of IAT Insurance in October 2020. Warren allegedly submitted two forged surety bonds to ER Snell, Inc. by email in an attempt to secure contracts for two road work projects.
“Upon investigation, special agents determined that the surety bonds submitted to ER Snell, Inc. were falsified,” Commissioner John F. King said. “An interview with the company's general counsel and upper management further confirmed that Mr. Warren was a contractor who did traffic signal work for their company, and they indeed received the two forged surety bonds.”
