Gas prices steadily rising across Georgia

Gas prices are still steadily rising across Georgia, and across the United States. According to AAA, Georgia had another increase this week, making the average price $3.13 per gallon. That’s 2 cents more than last week, 2 cents more than last month, and 89 cents more than this time last year.

The average gas price rose nationwide last week, as well. According to the AAA, the rise in gas prices is directly related to the price of crude oil. As crude prices continue to climb, pump prices will likely follow suit, according to Montrae Waiters, the AAA spokeswoman. “Since the price of oil accounts for roughly half of what consumers pay at the pump, higher oil costs will likely result in higher gasoline costs for Georgians.” She says that the price for a barrel of oil has gone up almost $20 a barrel just in the last few weeks.

It now costs motorists, on average, $46.95 to fill a 15-gallon tank of unleaded gasoline.

AAA says there are some tips for saving gas. They suggest combining several errands into one trip to drive fewer miles, take things out of the car that might add weight, and remove things like bike racks to reduce wind resistance. They also say avoid fast takeoffs and fast-breaking. There is also a AAA app that helps you find the best gas prices in your area.
