Habersham EMC (HEMC) is warning about a new scam. Some members have reported receiving threatening calls. The caller tells them that if they don’t pay money over the phone, they will have their power turned off.
HEMC said in a statement that employees will never call customers and ask them to take payment by phone.
Should you receive one of these calls, hang up and report it to the law enforcement. HEMC emphasized the importance of never giving out any personal information.
