Softball: Bluff opens 7-3A with a win; East Hall, Buford get wins

DAWSONVILLE — Cherokee Bluff opened its Region 7-3A slate with a dominating 10-2 win over Dawson County in five innings on Monday.

The Lady Bears (4-1, 1-0 Region 7-3A) scored in all but one inning as the offense pounded out 12 hits. The opened with a three-run first innings and added a run in the second on a solo home run from Stephanie Condland.

Cherokee Bluff plated three more each in the third and fourth innings.

Sophie Goodballet pace the Lady Bears attack with two hits and three RBI. Kaitlyn Herren added two hits and two RBI and Lauren Rule had two hits and one RBI for Cherokee Bluff. Mia Williams had two hits, Talia Ragone had a hit and one RBI, and Izzy Herren had a hit as well.

Izzy Herren got the win for Bluff going the distance. She allowed two runs on three hits while walking four and striking out five.

Dawson County’s only runs came from  Olivia Martinez, who belted a two-run home run in the third inning. Gracie Vaughan and Reese Moore each had one hit for the Lady Tigers (0-9, 0-1 Region 7-3A).

Moore took the loss for Dawson County yielding four runs on four hits in two-plus innings and striking out one. 


EAST HALL 5,
BANKS CO. 1

Callie Dale’s two-run home run in the sixth broke a 1-1 tie and propelled the Lady Vikings to the road win on Monday.

Dale’s blast highlighted a three-run inning and East Hall (4-0) added two more in the seventh.

Amari Burce, the last of three East Hall pitchers, got the win going the final three innings allowing no hits while walking five and striking out two.

Calli Hardison started and went two innings for the Lady Vikings and Maggie Banks also went two innings giving up one unearned run while surrendering no hits and fanning one. 

Lindsey Crawford took the loss for the Lady Leopards giving up  eight hits and five runs and striking out seven in a complete-game effort.

East Hall East Hall Vikings Varsity hit one home run on the day. Dale had a long ball in the sixth inning.

Hardison, Brooke Hewell, Alexis Burce, Amari Burce, Elvie Armour, Kaylana Curry, Ansley Ivey, and Dale each had one hit for East Hall.

Alexus Humphries had a hit and an RBI to lead Banks County. Laken Brown, Jodie Hood, and Marysa Rylee all had one hit for the Lady Leopards.


BUFORD 8, 
WALNUT GROVE 3

For the second consecutive game, the Lady Wolves rallied from an early deficit to get a win.

Buford jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first on a Mackenzie Pickens RBI double and a RBI single from Adriana Martinez. Walnut Grove answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, helped by some shaky Buford defense, and took a 3-2 lead in the third.

Buford tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth on a Olivia Haag RBI single and took the lead for good in the fourth on a RBI triple from Mackenzie Pickens and then a two-run home run from Martinez.

That would be just enough for sophomore Emma Grace Williams, who got the win in five innings giving up all three runs, but just one earned, on five hits and one walk while fanning four. Junior Olivia Duncan closed out the final two innings giving up no hits and striking out three.

Buford (6-1, 0-1 Region 8-6A) will try to even its region record playing host to Lanier on Tuesday.
