Softball wrap: Lady Bears rally for win; Commerce, North Hall win, Jackson Co. falls

FLOWERY BRANCH — Izzy Herren drove in Stephanie Condland with a sacrifice fly to give Cherokee Bluff to a thrilling 7-6 win over Rabun County on Wednesday at home.

Herren’s big hit capped a three-run seventh inning and came one batter after Condland had tied the game with triple scoring Lauren Rule.

The Lady Bears (2-0) pounded out 12 hits in the game. Condland and Talia Ragone each had three hits with Condland driving in a pair of runs. Mia Williams had a hit and two RBI as well.

Cherokee Bluff looked ready to blow things open quickly taking a 3-0 lead after the second inning. But Rabun County tied the game with a three-run third, and after the Lady Bears reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third, the Lady Wildcats grabbed the lead back at 6-3 with a three-run fourth.

It stayed that way until the seventh.

Herren also got the win in the circle going 3 1/3 innings allowing just two hits, no runs, and striking out four in relief of Williams.


COMMERCE 5,
BANKS COUNTY 3

Commerce used a four-run fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie en route to a road win on Wednesday.

The Lady Tigers got a run on a Banks County error to break the tie then Carson Hobbs blasted a two-run home run. Hailey Harpis followed with a solo home run to push the lead to 5-1.

But the Lady Leopards chipped away. They got a run on a passed ball in the sixth and another run in the seventh on a wild pitch with the bases loaded to pull within 5-3.

But Hobbs struck out Marysa Rylee with the bases loaded to end the game.

Commerce took a 1-0 lead in the second on a RBI single from Kendall Peters. Banks County tied it up in the third on a RBI double from Laken Brown.


NORTH HALL 12, 
GAINESVILLE 1 5 inn

The Lady Trojans exploded for an eight-run first inning en route to their first win of the season at home.

Gainesville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly. It was all North Hall from there. After the big first inning for the Lady Trojans (1-1), they added three runs in the third and another in the fourth.

Six different players drove in runs for North Hall. Caroline Cape had two hits and two RBI to lead the Lady Trojans. Ashley Callahan a hit and three RBI, Mac Taylor had a hit and two RBI, and Anna Reeves, Sadie Prickett, and Kinsley Kirby each had a hit and an RBI for North Hall.

Olvia Mullens got the win going three innings with Mac Taylor closing out the final two innings. They combined on a two-hitter while striking out eight.


WINDER-BARROW 8,
JACKSON COUNTY 4

Jackson County suffered its first loss of the season on the road on Wednesday.

The Lady Panthers (2-1) trailed 3-0 early but used a three-run home run from Whitney Hulsey to take a 4-3 lead in the fifth.

However, Winder-Barrow rallied with three runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the sixth to pull away for the win.

Raeghan Thompson two hits and Maegan Brownlee, Peri Foster, Mikala Rogers, and Ansley Barnes each had one hit for Jackson County.
