Fugitive arrested after all-night search in Lumpkin County

By AccessWDUN Staff

A suspect who opened fire on Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office deputies Sunday is behind bars after an all-night search.

Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard said Gerardo Jonathan "Jerry" Flowers was apprehended late Monday morning. Jarrard did not release details on the exact time and location of the arrest.

Flowers, who was wanted on arrest warrants in Lumpkin, Hall and Habersham counties led deputies on a vehicle chase in the Mt. Olive Church Road area near Dahlonega before getting out of his car and fleeing. Jarrard said law enforcement officers were worried about Flowers being a danger to the public.

"He unfortunately had put a note out that he was wanting to do suicide by cop," Jarrard said in a video released prior to the arrest.

Jarrard said the deputy who was the apparent target of Flowers' gunfire was not injured.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office said Flowers was wanted for probation violation, theft by taking and criminal trespass - all misdemeanor charges - in Hall County. Flowers was wanted in Habersham County for battery in violation of the Family Violence Act from an incident in 2019, according to the Habersham County Sheriff's Office. Lumpkin County has not released details on charges for Flowers.
