Dawsonville man arrested in Capitol riots

A Dawsonville man has been arrested in connection with the Capitol riots that happened last month.

Earlier today Federal authorities announced the arrest of Benjamin Harry Torre after identifying his presence at the U.S. capitol through a social media post. The FBI circulated fliers across the internet asking anyone who knew the identities of those involved to come forward. An anonymous tipster recognized Torre and turned him in.

According to the AJC, Torre, age 22, admitted to the FBI that he was among those involved in the deadly breach. He faces misdemeanor charges of entering and remaining in a restricted building and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. Torre admitted to entering into the Capitol through a broken window.

The AJC cites court records that claim Torre was one of a number of rioters who entered the office of Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore. Merkley claimed in a tweet that a laptop was stolen from his office, but Torre is not named as a suspect in that alleged theft.
