Two people were arrested in Hall County earlier in September after they were reportedly found in possession of over $90,000 worth of illegal drugs.

According to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, the agency was assisted by Homeland Security Investigations, FBI Safe Streets Task Force and Gainesville Police Department when the operation was carried out on Sept. 13 and 14.

The investigation began during a traffic stop on the morning of Sept. 13 on Interstate 985 North at the exit 20 off-ramp. Gainesville Police Officers charged the driver of the vehicle, Erika Laura Nava-Caballero, 40, of Gainesville, with several traffic offenses, including DUI and driving without a license.

Authorities seized about 172 grams of methamphetamine, a handgun and multiple fraudulent IDs from the vehicle. Nava-Caballero was arrested and also charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Agents then executed a search warrant on Sept. 14 at Nava-Caballero's home in the 3000 block of Heatherwood Drive. Law enforcement seized an additional 1,067 grams of methamphetamine and 18 grams of fentanyl inside the home. Agents also arrested Sergio Rodriguez-Rodriguez, 19, of Gainesville, who also lives at the home. He was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as possession of each drug with intent to distribute. Nava-Caballero was also charged with the same charges, in addition to offenses from the previous day.

The combined street value of the methamphetamine seized from the house and vehicle is about $86,730. Investigators estimated the street value of the seized fentanyl at $3,600.

Nava-Caballero and Rodriguez-Rodriguez each remain in the Hall County Jail without bond.
