FBI says suspect in Apalachee High School shooting connected to 2023 school threat

As the investigation continues into the Wednesday morning shooting at Apalachee High School, the FBI reports the suspect in the killings was questioned about a 2023 school threat.

The FBI said their National Threat Operations Center received several anonymous tips in May 2023 about online threats to commit a school shooting at an unidentified location and time. The threat was posted with pictures of guns.

The FBI discovered the post originated in Georgia and their Atlanta Field office gave that information to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for further action.

The sheriff’s office located then-13-year-old Colt Gray to interview him and his father.

The father told officials he had hunting guns in the house but the suspect did not have unsupervised access to them.

“The subject denied making the threats online. Jackson County alerted local schools for continued monitoring of the subject,” FBI officials said.

Officials said they had no probable cause for an arrest or additional law enforcement action.
