Alto, Kingston men killed in Emanuel County crash

An Alto man, who was a member of the Lakeview Academy Class of 2020, was one of two people killed in a single-vehicle wreck on wet pavement on Interstate 16 Sunday night.

Jordan Hunter Thomas, 19, died of injuries after the 2011 Toyota Tacoma double-cab pickup truck he was driving hydroplaned near mile marker 93.5 in Emanuel County, said Franka Young of the Georgia Department of Public Safety Public Information Office. Passenger Bradley Coleman Couey, 18, of Kingston also was killed in the crash, Young said.

According to Young, Thomas was traveling too fast for the weather conditions, resulting in a loss of traction. The eastbound truck left the road onto the south shoulder, striking a tree with its left side. The area of impact was on the south shoulder of Interstate 16 near mile marker 93.5.

Lakeview Academy officials have planned a prayer vigil to remember Thomas. The vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at the Lakeview football field.
