A Cleveland man was arrested following a brief chase from Habersham County into White County Friday night.
Habersham County Sheriff’s Office HEAT Unit Sgt. Kris Hall saw a Ford pickup truck and another vehicle traveling 30 miles over the posted speed limit on Ga. 105 on Cannon Bridge Road at 8:48 p.m.
Hall attempted to pull over the truck but said the driver continued at a high speed and ran the stop sign at Ga. 105 and Ga. 115. The driver then passed a vehicle on a double yellow line entering White County.
As the driver attempted to turn left onto Ga. 245, the truck traveled through the grass at Chattahoochee Grocery and barely missed a large steel signpost.
The truck then continued across Ga. 254 along the driveway of the Dollar General store before jumping the curve and coming to a rest in a ravine.
The truck’s driver, 19-year-old Hunter Kennon Flores, was arrested at the scene and charged with failure to maintain lane, defective tires, failure to obey a stop sign, reckless driving, racing, improper passing in a no passing zone, two counts of speeding and fleeing or attempting to elude an officer.
There was no contact between the truck and Hall’s patrol vehicle, according to a release from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office.
Flores was released from jail on a $16,850 bond.
The second vehicle was not located.
