Authorities believe a space heater might have sparked a fire Monday morning that destroyed a camper being used as a residence in Gillsville.
Steve Nichols, the Chief of Banks County Fire and Emergency Services, said firefighters were called to the scene at 2057 Highway 323 just after 9:30 a.m.
"Upon arrival, units found a single-family camper being utilized as a residence while their home is being built fully involved with fire," Nichols said in an email statement.
Nichols said crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire. The residents were not home at the time of the fire.
"The cause of the fire is listed as accidental and a electric space heater utilized in the rear bedroom could not be ruled out as the cause," Nichols said.
No injuries were reported.
