A Lawrenceville man has been arrested in connection with a series of hit and run incidents that happened within minutes of each other on the same day.

The Gwinnett Police Department arrested Landon Jerome Alex, 20, following a single-vehicle accident around 8:45 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 8. In that particular incident, Alex crashed his Toyota Yaris on Club Drive at Shackelford Road. After the crash, Alex reportedly exited the vehicle, removed his pants and then fled the scene. Police were able to find and arrest Alex.

During the course of the investigation, police determined Alex was the likely suspect in four other crashes that happened just an hour prior to the wreck on Club Drive.

Police gave the following timeline for the incidents, all of which happened on Nov. 8:

  • Shortly after 7:40 pm, Gwinnett Police were dispatched to a hit and run at 495 Buttercup Trail. Mary Cornett, 69, of Lawrenceville was hit by a car in her driveway as she was about to walk her dog. The vehicle fled the scene after hitting Cornett. Cornett suffered multiple injuries including a fractured femur.
  • Shortly after 7:50 pm, Gwinnett Police were dispatched to a hit and run at 1889 Oakland Point. A car hit Steven Edwards, 42, of Lawrenceville as he walked his dog in his driveway. The vehicle fled the scene after hitting Edwards. Edwards suffered multiple injuries including broken bones in his leg.
  • Shortly after 8:25 pm, Gwinnett Police were dispatched to a hit and run at 1757 N Oak Drive. Leonardo David Jaramillo, 49, of Lawrneceville said he attempted to reverse his car into his driveway. The vehicle sideswiped Jaramillo's vehicle and then left the scene.
  • Shortly after 8:35 pm, Thomas Idlett, 34, of Lawrenceville, flagged Gwinnett Police officers at 1502 Club Lakes Pkwy. Idlett said he was walking his dog when a male exited his vehicle and charged at him.

Police said they are trying to determine a motive in the incidents.

Alex has been charged with five counts of felony aggravated assault, two counts of felony aggravated battery, two counts of felony hit and run serious injury and one count of hit and run.
