By Will Daughtry News Reporter

A Gainesville resident was arrested on aggravated assault charges after an incident Friday night according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).

HCSO spokesperson Derreck Booth said that the suspect threatened a male victim with a machete.

“Our deputies responded just after 10:30 at night in response to a call where the victim reported the male suspect had threatened him with a machete following a verbal argument,” Booth said. “That victim apparently did not know the offender.”

Booth did say the victim was able to take a photo of the suspect during the incident outside of a residence on Highland Terrace in Gainesville.

57-year-old Santos Reyes Saenz was at a nearby residence and was identified as the offender. The machete used was found behind a couch at the residence Saenz was at.

It is currently unclear why the two were involved in an argument, but the victim was unharmed.

Saenz was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, both felonies.

He was also placed under an immigration hold and remains in the Hall County Jail without bond.
