Gainesville man charged for intentionally driving into moped rider, remains in custody

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter
A Gainesville man remains in the Hall County Jail without bond after he reportedly drove his vehicle into a man on a moped Thursday.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said the department’s Uniform Patrol Division responded to the 2100 block of Skelton Road at 12 a.m.

Initial details in the case revealed the 62 year-old victim had driven to the residence of the driver, Gregory Langston Motes, 55. The two men were involved in an ongoing dispute at the time.

During the argument, Motes allegedly intentionally backed his pickup from the driveway of his property into the victim, who was near the road on the moped. Motes then drove forward, repositioned the pickup and accelerated backwards hitting the victim again. Motes continued to drive for several feet, dragging the victim and his moped, HCSO said.

The victim sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Motes was charged with felony aggravated assault in the case.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident alongside the HCSO Accident Investigation Unit.
