It was an offensive night across Northeast Georgia.
But the biggest game of the night was as advertised. Rabun County made a huge statement Friday night knocking off defending Class 3A state champion Pierce County, 28-21, on the road in a battle of state title contenders. The Wildcats pulled away in the second half to knock off Class 3A's No. 4-ranked team.
North Forsyth also made a statement in a 30-27 comeback win over No. 7 West Forsyth to keep their Region 6-7A title hopes alive. The Raiders recovered a late fumble to set up the game-winning field goal. Meanwhile, Gainesville's comeback was squashed when Ethan Terry ripped a 44-yard run with 2:30 left to put the final nail in the coffin, 37-28.
In Region 8-6A, Buford had the game in the bag by halftime en route to a 58-0 blowout win over Habersham Central at Tom Riden Stadium.
In Region 8-5A, Jackson County found its offense in a 47-23 win over a hot Loganville team, and Johnson lost to Walnut Grove, 38-0.
Jefferson continued its onslaught of Region 8-4A opponents with a 63-0 rout over East Hall in Rabbittown, while Chestatee had its hands full against North Oconee losing 48-20.
In Region 7-3A, North Hall pulled away big in the second half to roll past rival White County, 51-20; Lumpkin County picked up its second straight win of the season with a 32-30 victory over Gilmer, and Cherokee Bluff blasted past West Hall, 37-7.
