The Cleveland City Council has named Cleveland Police Major Aaron Weiland as the interim police chief following the retirement of Chief John Foster at the end of 2020.
The appointment was made Monday night at a city council meeting along with other first-of-the-year appointments.
Weiland, who has been with the department for 22 years, said he appreciated the confidence council members placed in him and he looking forward to "moving forward learning and growing."
Mayor Josh Turner said officials have had several meetings in their search for a police chief and hope to have an announcement within the month.
