Gwinnett County approves increased millage rate for 2020

The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners adopted the 2020 millage rate for the unincorporated portion of the county Tuesday.

Tax Commissioner Richard Steele broke down the numbers in a press release Wednesday ahead of the 2020 property tax season. The total millage rate for unincorporated Gwinnett County for 2020 is 14.71 mills.

The county rate includes a new property tax for economic development of 0.3 mills. Taxpayers in unincorporated Gwinnett County, as well as those in cities that use police services, will see a 1.3 mill increase on the police line of the tax bill. Recreation taxes also increased by 0.05 mills.

Except for a rollback of 0.259 in Maintenance and Operations, all other county tax rates will remain the same in 2020 as in 2019. Steele said the rate is 1.391 mills higher than 2019.

Steele did want to remind residents that the Tax Commissioner's Office has no control or authority over the Gwinnett County Public School taxes, and they cannot reduce or refund any portion of those taxes dues to closed schools.

Taxpayers concerned about the millage rates for the public schools in the county should contact the Gwinnett County Board of Education.
