Hall County motorists should expect delays for the next several weeks on Dawsonville Highway, as lanes in both directions will be closed for reconstruction of the westbound bridge over the Chattahoochee River starting Sunday night.

According to a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation, the lane closures will impact the roadway between Stephens Circle and Sports Club Road starting at 10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29.

The release states that work on the bridge will occur between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday through Sunday. The lanes are expected to be closed until Friday, Dec. 18.

A single lane will be closed on both SR 53 eastbound and westbound before Lanier bridge, and a flagging station will be set up on each end of the bridge. The release says a pilot car will lead traffic heading both directions across the westbound bridge.

All construction work will take place on the eastbound bridge over Lake Lanier, according to the release.
