HOMER – The work of the Banks County Parks & Recreation Department is paying off, earning the agency’s programs state recognition for 2019.
Under the leadership of Director Brooke Whitmire, Assistant Director Kim McEntire and Athletics Coordinator Todd Mayfield, Banks County Parks & Recreation received the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Agency of the Year for population 20,000 and under for 2019.
Additionally, the program was named GRPA District 7 Agency of the Year among the 21 agencies in the district in both 2017 and 2019.
Greg White, president-elect of GRPA, presented the awards to Banks County commissioners and staff during the Jan. 14 county commission meeting.
“I know you’re aware of the assets you have in this great community, but I wanted to share these few highlights,” White told commissioners. “Banks County Recreation Department under the leadership of Brooke Whitmire, Kim McEntire and Todd Mayfield is respected across the state of Georgia.”
White, director of City of Decatur’s Active Living Department, said Banks County’s staff helps distinguish the program from others.
“I notice in your mission statement you talk about the quality of life which makes Banks County a great place to live and work,” White said. “The passion of the staff and team sets you all apart from others across the state.”
GRPA has 1,330 professional members and 207 agencies across the state.
