By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

A Commerce resident is lucky to have survived a heavily damaging house fire on Thursday.

Banks County Fire officials say units from their Fire & Emergency Services responded to 1476 Fort Lamar Road in Commerce on a reported structure fire. Upon arrival units found a single-family residence well involved with flamesfrom the home's interior.

Bnks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols says in a press release that their crews made a rapid interior attack and quickly brought the fire under control. The unidentified resident was home at the time, but was able to get out of the structure without any problems.

No injuries were reported and the home is listed as having heavy damage. The cause of the fire was investigated by the Banks County Fire Department and an electrical problem near the outside meter base could not be ruled out as a cause.

Nichols said Jackson County CI and Lee Arrendale CI Fire Departments assisted with operations on the scene.
