Gwinnett County and Hall County men arrested in insurance fraud scheme

By AccessWDUN Staff

Two north Georgia men were arrested Thursday in connection to an insurance fraud scheme that stretches as far west as California.

Agents with the Fraud Investigations Division at the Georgia Department of Insurance said two men created fake certificates of insurance claiming large groups of agricultural workers were insured when they were not.

They said the scheme collapsed when injury claims in California went unpaid since the insurance was not real, resulting in totals of $120 million dollars in losses.

Wesley Bernard Owens, 47, of Suwanee is facing six counts of insurance fraud, six counts of ID fraud, two counts of felony theft, two counts of forgery and one count each of operating unlawful insurance business and conspiracy to commit a crime (RICO). Beau Eric Wilson, 34, of Gainesville faces 13 counts of felony theft, six counts of insurance fraud, six counts of ID fraud, two counts of forgery and one count each of operating an unlawful insurance business and conspiracy to commit a crime (RICO.)

Agents also tried to serve an arrest warrant for Ronda Nicole Taylor, 48, of Stone Mountain Thursday morning as she has 21 outstanding warrants for being involved in the scheme.

However, Taylor was not home at the time.

A fourth suspect was also arrested in Florida.
