Gainesville resident wins million-dollar lottery prize, takes home over $500,000

A Gainesville resident recently won a million-dollar lottery prize after purchasing a ticket at a South Hall store.

The Georgia Lottery announced Monday afternoon that the person, whose name has not been released, won the top prize in the Millionaire Maker scratcher game.

The ticket was puchased at the Chevron Food Mart on Winder Highway in the Chestnut Mountain area.

"The winner claimed the prize on July 3 and chose the cash option, receiving $505,685," lottery officials said.

Elsewhere in Georgia, one person won $3 million in the July 4 Mega Millions drawing. The winning ticket was purchased at a Publix store in Kennesaw. The next Mega Millions drawing is set for July 8, with an estimated jackpot of $70 million.
