There has only been one boating incident on Lake Lanier through the Memorial Day Weekend as of Saturday night according to the latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
Georgia DNR Spokesman Mark McKinnon released the numbers Saturday evening. Waterways in the Gainesville area, including Lake Lanier and parts of the Chattahoochee River, have only had one reported incident and one injury.
Across the state of Georgia, there have been three such incidents including two injuries. While there have been seven reported Boating Under the Influence charges through the weekend so far, none have come in the Gainesville area.
McKinnon said the DNR will update the numbers again Sunday night. He added a drowning resulting from an overturned watercraft Saturday evening at Shoal Creek Park on Lake Lanier was not included in his report. (Click here for updated story on that incident.)
Not included in the DNR's statistics are drownings and near-drownings in local pools, of which there were three in Northeast Georgia Saturday.
