Habersham County announces Friday office closures to allow relocation

CLARKESVILLE – Anyone who plans to do business with Habersham County Government on Friday, March 22, should take note of planned closures.

The closures will allow relocation of the offices to the new Habersham County Administration Building, 130 Jacob’s Way, Clarkesville. The new facility is located off Toccoa Highway next to the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center.

Offices that will be closed Friday include:

  • County Commission/County Manager’s Office;
  • Finance Department;
  • Human Resources;
  • Information Technology;
  • Planning and Development;
  • Public Works; and
  • Tax Assessors’ Office.

Those offices will reopen Monday, March 25, in the new Habersham County Administration Building.

The county’s telephone system in its entirety will not be down, according to County Clerk Lindsay Underwood. People still will be able to call the sheriff’s office, courts, tax commissioner, elections office, etc.

Only offices closed to the public will not be receiving calls on Friday, but callers still should be able to leave voicemails for those who work in the affected offices and those messages will be returned when the offices are back in operation, Underwood said.

The Habersham County Tax Commissioner’s Office will remain in the HEMC Annex, 6257 State Hwy. 115, Clarkesville, until April 5, and may be reached by calling (706) 839-0120.

The Habersham County Elections and Registration Office will remain in the basement of the old courthouse at 555 Monroe Street, Clarkesville, until after the April 9 House District 28 Republican Primary Special Election, and may be reached by calling (706) 839-0170.
