Drug agents discover marijuana grow operation at Buford home, arrest 4

Four suspects are behind bars after drug agents found a large marijuana grow operation at a house in Buford last week.

Lt. Don Scalia with the Hall County Multi Agency Narcotics Squad said MANS officers worked with the Hall County Sheriff's Office Uniform Patrol Division and City of Gainesville police officers on an undercover investigation that ended with the search of a home on Old Wood Hollow Way in Buford. 

Scalia said the suspects were found Wednesday, March 13 in the basement of the home along with 253 marijuana plants. He said they were in the process of cultivating the plants when they were arrested.

"In addition, approximately 100 pounds of processed marijuana/marijuana buds, approximately 120 pounds of marijuana processing byproducts (stems and miscellaneous leafy material), 159 root balls from harvested marijuana plants, $1,074.00 in cash, packaging materials and digital scales were seized," Scalia wrote in a Monday morning press release.

Scalia said the illegal drugs are worth more than $706,000.

Scalia identified the suspects as follows:

  • Tuan Le Khac, 39, of Buford
  • James Thanh Nguyen, 52, of Lawrenceville
  • Thu Loan Phan, 44, of Montezuma
  • Vinh Thein Tran, 54, of Lawrenceville

All four face charges of manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and felony possession of marijuana.
