The Georgia State Patrol is looking to hire new trooper candidates

The Georgia State Patrol is pressing forward with a recruiting effort.

Lt. Crystal Zion said the pay for a trooper is pretty competitive in the law enforcement arena.

"In trooper school, you are going to make around $36,000," Zion said. "Then after trooper school, when you graduate you will be making $46,000 and there is steps for years past that to get you into to the 50's and 60's."

She said the patrol is not all about writing traffic tickets and working accidents, there are opportunities in aviation , SWAT, Dive and many other departments of expertise.

Zion said there is no limit on how old a trooper recruit can be as long as you are at least 21-years-old at the end of trooper school. The job comes with training and pay as soon as you are accepted into the statewide police force.

"Everyday is different," Zion said. "You never know what you will be called on to do, you don't know what part of the state or even the country you will be called on to assist."
